✅ Direct answer

  • Child is a green card holder (not a citizen): not eligible.
  • Child is a U.S. citizen; parent has a green card: child can be eligible if under 18 with an SSN.
  • Family lives abroad: OK if the child is a U.S. citizen with an SSN.
Can green card holders open a Trump Account for their child?
It depends on the child's status — not the parent's. The child must be a U.S. citizen with a valid Social Security Number. A parent who is a permanent resident (green card holder) may open the account for a citizen child if they are an authorized individual. The green-card parent does not need to be a citizen.
Are permanent resident (green card) children eligible for Trump Accounts?
No. Under IRC Section 530A and Notice 2025-68, the beneficiary child must be a U.S. citizen. Permanent residents (green card holders) who are not citizens do not qualify — even with a valid SSN.
If my husband has a US green card are our children who live with us in Canada eligible to open an account and receive trump $1000?
Only if each child is a U.S. citizen with a valid SSN and under 18. Living in Canada does not automatically disqualify a U.S. citizen child. The $1,000 pilot is only for citizens born 2025–2028. Green-card status of a parent does not create eligibility for a non-citizen child.
Can US citizens who live abroad get Trump Accounts?
Yes — if the child is a U.S. citizen with a valid SSN and under 18. Residence abroad does not block eligibility. See U.S. citizens born abroad and moving abroad.
Trump account newborn of us citizen but kid is not
If the newborn is not a U.S. citizen, they are not eligible — even if a parent is a citizen. Citizenship of the child is required. Some children born abroad to U.S. citizens acquire citizenship at birth; confirm with a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) and obtain an SSN before filing IRS Form 4547.
Do ITINs qualify instead of an SSN?
No. The child needs a valid Social Security Number. An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) does not satisfy the Trump Account rules.
